Eduventure

“EduVenture” is a gateway program, of the US and Ecuador foundations ‘It’s About Kids’, for connecting American, Canadian, and European experienced teachers, as well as recently graduated University Education students, who are mission minded, with a Learning/Teaching laboratory where they are given the opportunity for developing an unrivaled 21st-century pedagogy, certifying them to compete for High-demand teaching roles anywhere in the world.

Teaching at Montebello Academy / Island Academy

The Montebello Academy Pedagogical methodology is a hybrid construction of systems taken from Highest performing education models in the world according to PISA, and which agree with what the research of Robert Marzano and John Hattie show “works-best” in student learning.

When Different does More!

Applying the research, we have confirmed by practice that the classroom experience is much more engaging when students come to class prepared to contribute and learn from each other rather than arriving for a cold “up-load” by a teacher through direct instruction. Here the skill of the teacher is applied to how the student is prepared to use “All-The-Minutes” of class time for learning before entering the classroom, so the kids are on-task immediately in activities which are guided through seamless transitions. Individually, and within their group (3-5), students are encouraged by the method to present their individual understandings and discuss/debate them with the belief that the best learning comes from continuous feedback. The feedback comes from both group and the teacher…but mostly the group, with the teacher acting primarily as facilitator. Groups are strategically organized so that an ideal chemistry exists between the

students to produce robust collaboration with built-in differentiation so that no student is left behind. The desired outcome is to get students to “Engage with the Content” at a “Deep” and “Transfer” level of understanding that is highly visible to both student and teacher.

Our learning is benchmarked to the top of PISA calibrated standards to assure curriculum is consistently reaching grade-level targets and ultimately readiness for university assessment (SAT, ACT and equivalent internationally). ACTUALIZAR TEXTO

Most of the theory you can get almost anywhere, but at Montebello the learning will be elegant by practice in the most hands-on learning laboratory on the planet.

Teacher Opportunity FAQs

For teachers we are hoping for a two-to-five-year commitment to Montebello. While many of our teachers choose to stay with us for much longer, there is a minimum amount of time required for both teacher and school to achieve maximum benefit from the partnership. The saying goes, "At the end of the day we all do what we most want to do", and by it we intend the meaning to prove why most teachers will enjoy the adventure and the culture of the school so favorably that when the time comes saying “good-bye’ it will be one of the hardest things they do no matter how long they have been with us.

Fill out our “Contact us" form and our EduVenture director will contact you for an online consultation. In this session you will be able to get your initial questions answered and we can find out more about you. If there is any specific information that you would want to receive before an online meeting, you can ask your questions on a WhatsApp messaging  platform provided for that purpose.

While this opportunity certainly qualifies as romantic and adventurous, it should not be confused with international programs designed to attract credentialed teachers through short-term teaching commitments in elite schools that offer high salaries. Nevertheless, although we are on a mission with objectives that differ significantly from those offerings, we do pay experienced teachers, as well as those new to the profession who demonstrate a high capability in applying our methodology, a generous salary relative to the best private schools in Ecuador.

Student Teachers, Non-Credentialed Teaching, and other Staff and Volunteer Opportunities.

Individuals who come to Montebello without a teaching degree, a degree in a STEM area, or classroom experience may still be offered a salary or stipend, depending on their performance under the hands-on training we offer. However, for others in this category, at least initially, it is likely that some form of supplemental support will need to be raised. While the cost of living in Ecuador is substantially lower than in the United States, it is estimated that a minimum budget of at least $2,000 per month should be planned. Initial expenses for travel and settling in would be conservatively estimated at $5,000, and as with the monthly living costs, these estimated expenses depend substabtially on the housing arrangements, which could include living with a host family, sharing an apartment with another Montebello staff member, or renting a place on your own. There is usually much to discuss regarding all the options, and this exploration happens when you reach out to our EcuVenture team…Contact Us

FAQs Montebello University

If you already have a degree in education and want to teach at Montebello Academy, you would be most welcome to join our ministry staff. Though you are credentialed, there would still be initial and ongoing training in our methodology, but as far as authorization to teach in Ecuador, there would be no further requirement except to register with the Ministry of Education.

Because we will be making a significant investment in your initial training for our methodology, as well as other aspects of making your arrival and startup experience optimal, we are asking for a two-year minimum commitment. However, our hope is to have our foreign teachers here for at least five years. While many of our teachers have chosen to stay with us for much longer, there is a minimum amount of time required for both teacher and school to achieve maximum benefit from the partnership. The saying goes, "At the end of the day we all do what we most want to do", and by it we intend the meaning to be that while we hope to prove why most teachers will enjoy the adventure for many years, when the teacher feels that the time has come to have a new adventure, whether that is after 10 years or 10 months, there will be no contractual barriers to interfere, just shared tears when we have to say goodbye.

There are many variables involved in answering this question. They include the degree that student is pursuing, whether the student is just starting, has already made significant progress toward their degree, or and how much of the tuition cost might be offset by teaching services offered to Montebello while studying. A comprehensive answer to this question is best considered after a conversation with an applicant.

We do not have on-site lodging. Apartments are inexpensive, and those costs can be shared further by renting jointly with another student, a Montebello staff member, or living with a host family. Ecuadorian families love to have the experience of foreign students in their homes…especially if there are children in the home who can take advantage of learning about another culture and practicing their English.

Questions such as visa requirements, travel, and logistical considerations, can be covered by reaching out to us through our contact page.
